You love the idea of podcasts, but there are way too many out there for you to sift through to find the best ones. Don’t worry — I did all the work for you!
1. You Made it Weird with Pete Holmes
Hosted by comedian, Pete Holmes. This podcast is basically a series of interviews with famous comedians. Each episode is under 2 hours, and focuses on one special guest. Some of more notable guests have included: Aziz Ansari, Jenny Slate, Seth Rogan, Jimmy Kimmel, and Andy Samberg. Typically, the conversations are about the comedy business. What makes this podcast so interesting to listen to is how deep Holmes will go with his questions and discussions. Topics range from losing virginities to divorce. Staying true to the show’s title, it can definitely get weird…but in the best possible way.
2. WTF with Marc Maron
Very similar to You Made It Weird, this podcast is hosted by comedian, Marc Maron. He also has celebrity guests and spends about an hour talking with them. Maron is a lot more cynical about the world than Holmes. In this show, Maron and his guests typically discuss political issues and how it relates to them personally. Even though this podcast is hilarious, it gets very dark as well. As a recovering addict, Maron discusses his addiction problems and invites his guests to talk about their as well (if they have it). He has also had guests like Laura Jane Grace, a transgender woman in the rock band Against Me! and even Barack Obama came on to discuss the 2016 election. Maron is masterful at having real conversations while peppering in a lot of humor and fun.
3. Straight Talk with Ross Mathews
This podcast is 100% fun. It has everything from snack breaks, hilarious song parodies, games, contests and even karaoke! It is the podcast for those who love The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. A true TV personality, Ross Mathews is a naturally bright and sunny person. He and many of his hilarious friends make their listeners feel like they are hanging out with a really fun group of friends. Episodes are under 2 hours and are sure to make you smile.
4. Call Your Girlfriend
Started by 2 best friends whose careers separated them across the country, journalist Ann Friedman and Tech Specialist Aminatou Sow started this podcast so they could keep in touch and catch up. This podcast truly makes the listeners feel like they are eavesdropping on a phone call between a couple of cool best friends. Typically, they open the show with each of them pouring a glass of wine. Then they dish. Their topics range from health care to the latest feminine hygiene products. They don’t always discuss feminist issues, but most of their conversations are women-centric, which is pretty typical in a phone call to your best girlfriend. Even though some subjects they tackle can be challenging, overall the show is light-hearted, thought-provoking and just plain cool!
